Thursday Night Football: Commanders vs. Packers
It was a cool September night in Green Bay as the Packers and Commanders clashed under the bright lights. Both teams had won their first game and were looking to make an early-season statement.
First Quarter
The Packers opened fast under the lights. Jordan Love hit Dontayvion Wicks twice and then connected with Tucker Kraft for a 57-yard gain. Love scrambled to the 5-yard line and found Romeo Doubs for a short touchdown. The Packers kicker made it 7–0.
A scary moment came when Jayden Reed hauled in what looked like a long touchdown, but a holding call erased it. Reed left the game and was later diagnosed with a broken collarbone. Washington’s Jayden Daniels tried to get moving with short passes to Austin Ekeler, but pressure from Wyatt and McDuffie led to a sack. The quarter ended with the Packers in front.
Second Quarter
Green Bay leaned on running back Josh Jacobs, who powered in from the 2 for another score. The extra point stretched the lead to 14–0. Washington finally answered when the Commanders kicker nailed a 51-yarder, making it 14–3.
Both defenses settled in. Parsons and Gary stuffed the run, while Armstrong collected a sack. Before halftime, each kicker tried long attempts. Washington’s went wide from 58 yards, and the Packers kicker clanged one off the upright from 48. It stayed 14–3 at the break.
Third Quarter
Washington came out strong when Deebo Samuel returned the kickoff 50 yards, but Parsons and Cooper sacked Daniels to stop the drive. The Commanders kicker hit the upright again!
Love then drove Green Bay back down the field with passes to Luke Musgrave. Jacobs ran hard, setting up a short field goal. The Packers kicker was good, pushing the lead to 17–3. The rest of the quarter was a field position battle with more punts and tough tackling.
Fourth Quarter
Washington finally broke through. Daniels hit Zach Ertz for a 20-yard touchdown, cutting it to 17–10. But Love answered quickly, capping a drive with an 8-yard touchdown to Kraft. The extra point made it 24–10.
Later, the Packers kicker drilled a 56-yarder for 27–10. Washington kept fighting. Daniels found Samuel for a 10-yard touchdown and then connected with Luke McCaffrey on the two-point try, closing it to 27–18. On the drive, Ekeler left the game and it is feared he tore his Achilles.
Washington tried an onside kick, but Wicks recovered. Armstrong sacked Love to give the Commanders one last chance, but the drive stalled. Love kneeled twice to seal the 27–18 Packers win.
Key Takeaway
The Packers looked sharp, mixing Love’s passing with Jacobs’ power. The Commanders showed grit, but couldn't get going. Green Bay came away with a balanced, impressive win.
