Ravens Soar Past Browns 41-17 in AFC North Showdown
The Baltimore Ravens showed why they are seen as Super Bowl contenders by defeating the Cleveland Browns 41-17 at M&T Bank Stadium. The Ravens have one of the NFL's strongest offenses, and they proved this against Cleveland.
The Browns came into the game with questions about their quarterback. Veteran Joe Flacco started over rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, but the 40-year-old struggled to perform well against the Ravens' tough defense.
First Quarter: Defensive Battle
In the first quarter, both teams played strong defense, and no one scored a touchdown. The Ravens were the first to score with a 43-yard field goal by Loop after a good drive with Lamar Jackson connecting with receivers Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman. The Browns, with Flacco leading, moved the ball but could not turn their chances into points. The quarter ended with Baltimore ahead 3-0.
Flacco showed some of his experience, completing passes to tight end David Njoku and rookie Harold Fannin Jr., but the Browns couldn’t keep their drives going. Rookie running back Quinshon Judkins had a slow start with only a few carries.
Second Quarter: Ravens Break Through
In the second quarter, Baltimore's offense finally came alive. They blocked a Cleveland punt and quickly scored a touchdown with a short pass from Jackson to receiver Wallace, bringing the score to 10-0. The blocked punt clearly showed how well-prepared Baltimore was compared to Cleveland.
The Browns responded with their best drive of the half. Flacco found Jerry Jeudy for an impressive 26-yard catch and later connected with Njoku for more yards. Cleveland scored a 38-yard field goal before halftime, cutting Baltimore's lead to 10-3.
Third Quarter: Jackson Takes Control
The third quarter was all about Lamar Jackson and the strong Ravens’ offense. Jackson started the half with a great 19-yard pass to Zay Flowers, who has become a top receiver for the team. After a Joe Flacco interception gave the Ravens good field position, Jackson threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Walker, increasing the lead to 17-3.
Cleveland fought back when Flacco threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Cedric Tillman, showing the connection that made Tillman a promising player last season. However, Baltimore quickly responded and led 24-10 as they entered the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter: Ravens Pull Away
Early in the fourth quarter, Baltimore took control of the game with another touchdown pass from Jackson, this time a 24-yard throw to Walker. Cleveland’s defense struggled to stop Baltimore's strong attack.
One of the most exciting moments happened when Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith picked up a Joe Flacco fumble and ran it back 63 yards for a touchdown, extending Baltimore's lead to 38-10. Cleveland managed to score a late touchdown when backup quarterback Dillon Gabriel found Dylan Sampson for an 8-yard pass, but it was not enough.
Looking Ahead
This strong performance shows that Baltimore can aim for a championship and that their new defense works well with their powerful offense. The Ravens have shown they can keep their high-scoring ways while making key stops.
For Cleveland, this game highlighted the struggles they face with their quarterback situation and the challenges that come with having new players. The Browns need to find more consistency if they want to compete in the tough AFC North division.
Both teams will look to improve next week as they continue their 2025 seasons in what promises to be an exciting NFL season.
