Seahawks Soar Past Cardinals 44-22 Behind Dominant Defense and Balanced Attack
The Seattle Seahawks entered Sunday night's showdown at 6-2, riding high as one of the NFC's hottest teams. Their opponents, the Arizona Cardinals, came in at 3-5 and desperately needed a win to keep their playoff dreams alive. What followed was a masterclass performance by Seattle that showcased exactly why they're considered serious contenders this season.
First Quarter Fireworks Set the Tone
The Seahawks wasted no time announcing their intentions. After a solid opening drive, Sam Darnold found his favorite target, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, for a spectacular 43-yard touchdown bomb that had the home crowd roaring. Smith-Njigba, who has been on an absolute tear lately with back-to-back 100+ yard games, showed his elite route-running skills on the scoring play.
But the real fireworks came when Seattle's defense stepped up in a big way. Defensive end Knight forced a fumble on Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett, and linebacker Lawrence scooped it up and raced 34 yards to the house! Just like that, Seattle led 14-0, and the Cardinals were already in deep trouble.
Seattle wasn't done yet. After another sustained drive, rookie running back Holani punched in a 9-yard touchdown run to cap off a dominant first quarter. The Seahawks led 21-0 after just 15 minutes of play.
Second Quarter Chaos Continues
The second quarter brought more of the same defensive dominance from Seattle. Once again, Knight got to Brissett, forcing another fumble that Lawrence returned for his second touchdown of the night! The 22-yard scamper made it 28-0, and the rout was officially on.
The Cardinals finally got on the board thanks to some impressive work from their star tight end Trey McBride. The reliable pass-catcher, who has been having a breakout season, helped drive Arizona down the field before Greg Dortch scored on a 4-yard direct snap touchdown run. McBride's consistent hands and red zone presence have made him Brissett's go-to target all season.
Seattle answered right back with another methodical drive, capped by Zach Charbonnet's 6-yard touchdown plunge. The versatile running back showed the power and determination that has made him such a valuable complement to Kenneth Walker III. At halftime, Seattle commanded a comfortable 37-7 lead.
Second Half Adjustments
The Cardinals came out fighting in the third quarter, determined to make it a game. McBride continued his outstanding performance, hauling in a 15-yard touchdown pass from Brissett. The Cardinals even went for a successful two-point conversion, with Brissett finding rookie sensation Marvin Harrison Jr. in the end zone. McBride finished the night with an incredible 127 receiving yards and a touchdown on 9 catches, showing why he's become one of the NFL's most reliable tight ends.
Seattle added a field goal in the fourth quarter to extend their lead, while Harrison Jr. managed to find the end zone on a 9-yard touchdown pass for his second score of the night. The former Ohio State star has been developing nicely alongside McBride in Arizona's passing attack.
Looking Ahead
This dominant 44-22 victory improves Seattle to 7-2 and strengthens their position atop the NFC standings. Their balanced offensive attack, led by Darnold's efficient passing and a powerful running game featuring Walker and Charbonnet, looks increasingly dangerous. Smith-Njigba's continued emergence as a top receiving threat gives them another weapon in their playoff push.
For Arizona, the loss drops them to 3-6, making their playoff hopes much more challenging. However, the bright spots were clear: McBride's elite production and Harrison Jr.'s continued development provide hope for the future.
Both teams will look to build on different aspects of this game as they prepare for their next challenges in what promises to be an exciting finish to the regular season.
