Steph Curry Has the Warriors Looking Like Contenders... For Now
For over a decade, the Golden State Warriors have defined modern basketball. Stephen Curry, now 37 years old, remains the greatest shooter the game has ever seen, and somehow, he’s still carrying the load. Through five games, Curry’s been electric, averaging 27 points per game and getting the Warriors off to a 4-1 start that has fans in the Bay dreaming of one more run.
A Statement Win Over the Clippers
On Tuesday night, Golden State dominated the Los Angeles Clippers 98–79, a vintage defensive performance that reminded everyone what this team can still do when locked in. Curry scored 19 points with eight assists, while Jimmy Butler, acquired at last year’s trade deadline, added toughness and playmaking on both ends while Draymond Green anchored the defense.
The win pushed the Warriors to 4-1, one of their best starts in years, and showed flashes of the championship DNA that made them legends.
A Single Blemish in Portland
Their only loss came on the road against Portland, a gritty, defense-first team led by Jrue Holiday. Curry dropped 35 points in that game, but it wasn’t enough as the Blazers slowed the pace and ground out a win. Still, Curry’s performance proved he can take over any night, even against elite defenders.
Can Experience Still Win in the West?
The Western Conference is as stacked as ever. The Nuggets look ready to reclaim the throne with Nikola Jokić surrounded by his best roster since their 2023 title. Memphis has Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. healthy again, OKC is a juggernaut, and the Clippers still have Harden and Kawhi leading a veteran squad.
Golden State’s core, Curry, Butler, Green, and the recently extended Kuminga, gives them experience and grit. But questions linger about their depth and athleticism. Gone are the days of overwhelming small-ball dominance.
The Clock Is Ticking
The Warriors may not be the fastest or deepest team anymore, but as long as Stephen Curry laces them up, they’ll be dangerous. His shooting, leadership, and unshakable confidence keep Golden State relevant in a brutal Western race.
They’re contenders for now. But with the dynasty’s clock ticking louder each season, this year might be their last real shot at adding another banner to Chase Center’s rafters.
