The Oklahoma City Thunder Are Breaking the NBA
The Oklahoma City Thunder are doing something almost no one has ever seen before. They’re sitting at 20–1, riding a 12-game winning streak, and somehow look even better than they did last season when they won the NBA championship. With last year’s MVP and the favorite to win this year’s MVP, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, leading the way, the Thunder might be building the next NBA dynasty.
A Young Team Playing Like Veterans
Most championship teams rely on older stars who eventually slow down or cost too much to keep. But the Thunder are different. Shai is only 27 years old, star wing Jalen Williams is 24, and star big Chet Holmgren is just 23. These are players who are not even in their prime yet, but they’re already dominating the league.
The crazy part? The Thunder just got their second star, Jalen Williams, back from injury. He’s only played two games so far this season, including their win over the Trail Blazers on November 30th. OKC has been crushing teams without one of their best players.
Winning the Smart Way: Draft Picks and Development
The Thunder didn’t build this powerhouse through big free-agent signings. They took the long, patient route. Over several years, they collected tons of draft picks, traded wisely, and developed young talent the right way.
That plan is still paying off. This year, OKC owns the Clippers’ unprotected pick, which is currently projected to be 6th overall, and Utah’s pick, sitting around 9th overall (as long as it doesn’t land in the top 8). That means the best team in the NBA might add another pair of top young players next summer.
This is almost unheard of. Good teams usually lose their draft picks. The Thunder just keep getting more.
A Team Built to Last for a Decade
Last season, OKC finished 68–14, one of the best records in NBA history. They stormed through the playoffs to win the franchise’s first championship since their Seattle SuperSonics days. Shai won both MVP and Finals MVP, proving he’s one of the best players alive.
Their lineup is stacked. Shai and Jalen lead a fast, unselfish offense. Chet protects the rim and shoots threes. Isaiah Hartenstein brings strength inside. Cason Wallace and Alex Caruso lock down other teams’ best players.
If they stay healthy, the Thunder aren’t just championship favorites for this season. They might dominate the NBA for years, and maybe even break Golden State’s record for most wins: 73.
The Thunder aren’t just good, they’re changing what an NBA dynasty can look like.
