Week 16 NFL Power Rankings- The Top 16
With the playoff picture tightening, Week 15 separated teams that can close from teams still learning how. Injuries, late-game execution, and momentum now matter more than ever.
16) Carolina Panthers (7-7)
Carolina let a winnable game slip away in a 20-17 loss to the Saints, struggling to close late despite controlling much of the action. Bryce Young made some strong throws, but the offense stalled in the fourth quarter. At 7-7, they’re still alive, but mistakes like this are costly in December.
15) Baltimore Ravens (7-7)
The Ravens delivered one of the most dominant defensive performances of the week, shutting out Cincinnati 24-0. Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson controlled the tempo while the defense forced turnovers all night. Baltimore is dangerous because when they’re locked in, they can smother teams.
14) Pittsburgh Steelers (8-6)
Pittsburgh stayed in the playoff hunt with a 28-15 win over Miami, leaning on balance and experience. Aaron Rodgers looked comfortable, and the defense tightened up after halftime. This team isn’t flashy, but they’re peaking at the right time.
13) Houston Texans (9-5)
The Texans rolled past Arizona 40-20, continuing their surge at the perfect moment. C.J. Stroud and Nico Collins connected on multiple big plays, while the defense kept Arizona chasing. Houston is playing with confidence and looks like a team nobody wants to face.
12) Chicago Bears (10-4)
Chicago bounced back in a big way, crushing Cleveland 31-3 with defense and a strong run game. D’Andre Swift controlled the tempo, and the Bears forced turnovers all night. This felt like a statement win from a team that knows who it is.
11) Green Bay Packers (9-4-1)
The Packers fell 34-26 to Denver, and the loss hurt more than the standings. Micah Parsons tore his ACL, dealing a major blow to an already thin defense. Green Bay is still a playoff team, but their hopes for a Super Bowl ring might be over this year.
10) Detroit Lions (8-6)
Detroit went toe-to-toe with the Rams but came up short in a 41-34 loss. The offense exploded, but the defense couldn’t get the stops it needed late. That’s been the story all season, and it keeps them stuck in the middle.
9) Jacksonville Jaguars (10-4)
The Jaguars embarrassed the Jets 48-20, and Trevor Lawrence was in complete control from start to finish. Jacksonville scored in every way possible and never took their foot off the gas. When this offense gets rolling, they’re a serious threat.
8) Los Angeles Chargers (10-4)
The Chargers earned a gritty win in Kansas City, officially knocking the Chiefs out of the playoff race. Their defense made the biggest plays, and Justin Herbert did enough to control the game. This team is built for close, pressure-filled matchups.
7) San Francisco 49ers (10-4)
San Francisco handled business with a 37-24 win over Tennessee, staying efficient on both sides of the ball. Brock Purdy spread it around, and George Kittle was a matchup problem all night. The 49ers are quietly hitting their stride.
6) New England Patriots (11-3)
New England lost to Buffalo, but their body of work still matters. Drake Maye kept them competitive, and they were able to stay ahead for most of the game before Buffalo stormed back. They’re still one of the hardest outs in the league.
5) Buffalo Bills (10-4)
Buffalo pulled off one of the biggest wins of the week, rallying to beat New England 35-31. Josh Allen and James Cook took over late, flipping the game in the fourth quarter. That kind of win builds belief that they can beat the best teams heading into January.
4) Philadelphia Eagles (9-5)
The Eagles snapped their skid with a dominant 31-0 shutout of the Raiders. Jalen Hurts was efficient, and the defense overwhelmed Las Vegas from the opening drive. This looked like the version of Philadelphia everyone feared earlier in the year.
3) Seattle Seahawks (11-3)
Seattle survived a tense 18-16 win over Indianapolis, winning on a last-second field goal. They didn’t play their cleanest game, but they executed when it mattered most. That ability keeps them near the top.
2) x — Los Angeles Rams (11-3)
The Rams clinched a playoff spot with a thrilling 41-34 win over Detroit. Matthew Stafford and Puka Nacua shredded the Lions’ defense, and the offense never slowed down. Los Angeles feels dangerous because they can win shootouts or grind games out.
1) x — Denver Broncos (12-2)
Denver stayed red-hot with a win over Green Bay, extending their streak to 11 straight victories. Bo Nix continues to look calm and confident, while the defense closes games. Right now, the Broncos are the most complete team in football.
The margin is gone. With the playoffs close, every drive and every mistake now shapes January, and the teams at the top are the ones still delivering when the pressure hits.
