First Quarter: Spurs Come Out Guns Blazing
The Spurs stormed into Oklahoma City with a mission. San Antonio wasn't backing down from the defending champs. Victor Wembanyama got things rolling with a stepback jumper right away. Then Devin Vassell followed up with his own three-pointer. The Spurs' young guns were clicking on offense. Stephon Castle drove hard to the basket for layups. He was everywhere early on. By the end of the first quarter, San Antonio led 32-25. The Thunder were scrambling. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander tried to keep Oklahoma City in it with fadeaways and jump shots. But the Spurs' defense was suffocating. Wembanyama's length bothered everybody near the rim. Castle's size made him impossible to guard in transition. San Antonio's road team showed up ready to fight in Game 7.
Second Quarter: Thunder Strike Back, Spurs Stay Strong
The second quarter turned into a shootout. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander woke up and started attacking. He hit stepback jumpers. He threw down a dunk. He was unstoppable. The Thunder clawed back into the game. Isaiah Hartenstein hit a jump shot. Jared McCain added threes. Oklahoma City tied it at 49-49 midway through the quarter. The Spurs refused to fold though. De'Aaron Fox nailed a three-pointer. Victor Wembanyama fired up another three and buried it. Julian Champagnie added his own three-ball. San Antonio kept answering every Thunder run. By halftime, the Spurs led 56-53. Neither team had pulled away. This was a heavyweight fight.
Fourth Quarter Finish: Spurs Seal the Series
The fourth quarter belonged to the Spurs. They came out and didn't let up. De'Aaron Fox drilled a stepback three at 9:30. Then Keldon Johnson started raining threes from everywhere. One at 11:06. Another at 10:33. Another at 8:00. Johnson was on fire. Victor Wembanyama threw down a stepback three. Julian Champagnie answered with his own three-pointer. The Spurs' offense was relentless. By the end, San Antonio's lead was too big. The final score was 111-103. The Spurs won the series 4 games to 3. Victor Wembanyama had 22 points and was a plus-7. Stephon Castle played solid defense and passed well. Julian Champagnie led the team in scoring with 20 points. San Antonio broke through to the NBA Finals. Their championship dream was alive.
